FINANCIAL ACCESS PROTOCOL – FADev Tanzania Case_Study
The Foundation of ASM Development (FADev), in collaboration with SWISSAID Tanzania and the National Bank of Commerce (NBC), commenced in 2021 a financial inclusion program for
Tanzania’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in an effort to address critical challenges faced by ASM operators. Despite efforts by the government to formalize the ASM sector and curb illegal exports, including regulations requiring miners to sell minerals through registered brokers or dealers, accessing formal loans from commercial banks remains difficult for ASM operators, who often lack formal training and rely on basic extraction methods.
